Star Wars: A New Hope grossed more than $513 million worldwide from its final budget of $11 million. The film brought retailers more than $32 billion in merchandising sales. No one thought the science-fiction kid's movie would become a blockbuster hit and become a beloved franchise that produced sequels, prequels, games, books, and more. George Lucas changed the industry. He revitalized the science fiction genre, created a market for merchandise, and pioneered the special effect industry. His accomplishments not only gained him fame from Star Wars but also has affected how the entire entertainment industry works.
